Move beyond basic endpoint detection and response with a managed XDR program

CISOs and security owners, especially those operating small and mid-sized businesses, face several challenges today and must be able to optimize their existing security investments to battle the ever-evolving security threats and alert fatigue.

The BlackBerry 2022 Threat Report revealed that small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs) receive 11 to 13 threats per day, per device.

In CS Hub’s recent report, CISO Considerations for Managed XDR Investment, featured security experts talk about how a managed XDR service can fit into a security owner’s digital estate and provide a return on investment.

What is XDR

Extended detection and response (XDR) expands on endpoint detection and response (EDR) by searching for and addressing cyberthreats across an organization’s entire digital environment.

XDR also looks beyond the endpoint to encompass a business’s entire network, including its cloud storage and applications where it unifies visibility and management of these assets.

However, moving from EDR to XDR is the could be the logical progression in defensive capabilities but the additional telemetry can increase the workload of the network defenders. This creates the need for a managed service provider.

The importance of managed services

Managed services are an important tool for organizations as staffing issues and a lack of security resources mean CISOs are looking for external partners to provide security services.

Speaking to CS Hub, Robin Smith, CISO at luxury car manufacturer Aston Martin Lagonda, managed services are the future for his team and part of the strategy on which he is working.

According to him, security capabilities should include 24x7x365 artificial intelligence-powered endpoint protection, continuous threat hunting, threat intelligence overlay and rapid response to provide the best chances at preventing an attack. For some this is only achievable with a managed service provider.
